For most of my career as a surgeon, I have cared for patients at moments when something fundamental in their lives had been disrupted, loss of confidence, loss of function, loss of control.
What I learned over time is that restoring health is rarely just about fixing a problem. It is about restoring possibility.
My medical training began at the University of British Columbia, followed by urology residency at Dalhousie University and fellowship training in pelvic reconstructive surgery and neuro-urology at New York University. Today I serve as Clinical Professor of Urology at the University of Calgary, where I have spent decades caring for patients, teaching future surgeons, and helping develop national clinical guidelines that shape urologic care across Canada.
But medicine is only one part of my story.
Outside the operating room, I’ve always been drawn to endurance and challenge. I’ve completed multiple Ironman triathlons, run more than a dozen marathons, and taken on long-distance open-water swims. Those experiences have taught me something powerful: the human body is capable of far more than most of us realize.
The same principle applies to health.
Too often, healthcare is designed to manage illness rather than unlock human potential. We wait for problems, treat symptoms, and call it success.
I believe we can do better.

Health should not simply mean the absence of illness. \nIt should mean strength, energy, and possibility.
